Social Event Series | inaugural embaX cohort

Based on my engagement and experience on vertically translating global concepts into local contexts, I was asked to curate & host the social event series in Zürich (CH) for the inaugural cohort of EmbaX, Europe’s new, most relevant Executive MBA.

I compiled my proposed event portfolio on request around the programs’ guiding principles of technology and leadership, sustainability and impact.
I paid special attention to highlight local, innovative approaches in the urban space of Zurich which served as practical examples for the application of the mentioned guiding principles in the local context.
As requested by the client, the activities & locations were tailored to a group size of 30-35 people and an afternoon/evening format within easy reach of the course locations.

Sneak Peak: Event # 2

Bees and the city: Urban apiculture in unexpected places

  • Timeframe: May – September upon arrangement
  • Participants: 30-35
  • Duration: 2h – 3h (3h includes honey degustation) + apéro/dinner
  • Where: Dachterrasse GZ Riesbach, Seefeldstrasse 93, 8003 Zürich
  • Dresscode: For the visit to the bees, participants should wear long and loose trousers and closed shoes and socks.

This roof terrace in the middle of Zurich is home to unusual residents: the bee colony of Wabe3. Upon arrival, we can firstly get cozy and listen to a first introduction where we learn what drives these bees, why the queen is not really a ruler, why male bees die when they make love, and why bees are so precious for nature. Besides key facts around honey, we also learn about other products derived from the bees’ work and what motivates the team of Wabe3 to hold a colony in the city.
Next, we receive protective suits, because now we get close with the bees: We can open a colony and see what these diligent little workers do all day.

We have the option to complement this experience with a honey degustation and the production of a bee balm, which the participants can take with them as a souvenir. In this part, we’re being taken on a journey through the various bee products and learn some more fun facts around bees, like why a queen becomes a queen solely through the food she consumes.
To finish, we have a chance to pose all open questions. The whole evening can be completed with an Apéro riche, homemade with love by Anima Pompon, the Kuchen zum Honig of Wabe3*.

*if a sit-down dinner would be preferred, a restaurant focusing on sustainability in the vicinity can be reserved instead
